Frequently Asked Questions

What does Part A cover?
You will usually not pay a premium for Part A, as long as you have paid Medicare taxes long enough while working.

Part A covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility, covered home health, hospice.

Part A has a benefit period deductible and per day copayment. There is no limit to the number of benefit periods you can have in a year which means you may pay the deductible more than once in a year. Adding coverage to your Part A can provide you with cost-share protection. Call me to hear about your options.

What does Part B cover?
Part B covers medically necessary services such as doctor visits, outpatient services, durable medical equipment, x-rays, mental health services, preventive services, ambulance and other outpatient services. There is a 20% coinsurance under Part B. There is a Part B premium set annually by Medicare. You may pay a higher premium for your Part B depending on your income.
What does Part C cover?
Part C is another name for Medicare Advantage plans, which are all-in-one plans that include your Parts A,B and D coverage as well as additional benefits. You can choose between HMO and PPO plans. You will spend less by seeing in-network providers – I can help you confirm whether your doctors are in network with a plan before you enroll. You must continue paying your Part B premium to qualify for an Advantage plan. Call me if you would like to hear more about these plan options.
What does Part D cover?
This is your Prescription drug coverage and can be purchased separately as a stand-alone Prescription Plan, usually when you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan; or can be included with your Medicare Advantage plan. I can help you compare costs of your drugs before you choose to enroll in a plan. Give me a call for assistance.
How do I avoid late enrollment penalties?
There may be penalties if you do not sign up for your Part B or Part D when you first qualify. These penalties are not a one-time fee, they are added to your monthly premium for as long as you are enrolled in Medicare. You may be able to delay your enrollment in Medicare without penalty as long as you have creditable coverage after turning 65. Speak to a broker, like myself, to help you plan your Medicare enrollment in order to avoid these penalties.
What if I can't afford Medicare?
There are both state and federal programs that offer financial assistance for your out-of-pocket costs such as copays, deductibles, prescriptions. Income limits apply. Give me a call to help you find the programs that you may qualify for.
How do I get help with my Medicare?
